Tires: Tire Cupping, tire cupping, 2004 corvette

Question
I have a 2004 Corvette and was told that the tires are cupped, so what causes this to occur?  These are the original tires (25K on them)what are my options, hopefully not new tires!  Thanks.....

Answer
Tim,

First the bad news - you can either live with it or replace the tires.  In other words, once the rubber is worn away, you can't add it back.

Cause - Alignment, aggravated by insufficient rotation and insufficient inflation.

I should also tell you that "spirited driving" has to be accounted for in the alignment and because the vehicle is a sports car, tire wear is not something that is of much concern in the design process.  I think you should plan on this being a continuing problem through out the life of the car, unless there is a problem with the alignment.
