Steering Column Repair: 93 ford aerostar automatic shift lever disconnected, ford steering column, ford aerostar

Question
hi I have 1993 ford aerostar awd, it's a non tilt
steering wheel. I was trying to put the car in
drive from park. When pulling back on shift
lever I heard a tink, now the lever is loose and
it won't move out of park. It feels like the lever
has disconnected from the steering column

Answer
Hi Cheryl:

It sound like one of two things has happened to your van.  This is very common for this type of vehicle.
We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to repair and/or rebuild the shift tube of a Ford steering column.  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions on our website. Although the example is for a different vehicle than yours, the column is identical to yours (tilt and non tilt use the same housing)

I hope these instructions help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, if you need parts to repair this column simply follow the links to order on line or email us on our "Contact Us / Order Parts" page and we will get back in touch with you personally

Good luck

Doug
