Tires: TIRE SIZE, rim width, tire size

Question
MY TIRE SIZE IS P235 70 R16.  WOULD I BE ABLE TO PUT P245 70 R16 ON THIS VEHICLE.   THANKS

Answer
Janet,

There are 3 things one needs to know if a different tire size is going to fit on a vehicle - 1)  The dimensions of the fenderwells,   2)  the width of the rim, 3)  The load carrying capacity of both tires.

I can answer #3 - A P245/70R16 has more load carrying capacity than a P235/70R16, but you should be aware that the speedometer will read low by 2%, which is OK.

I can't answer #2 without knowing the year make and model of your vehicle.  I can look the rim width up on a book.

But the answer to #1 is not something that is published anywhere, so I just can not give you a difinitive answer - but usually going up one size will not cause the tire to hit anything, so it's usually OK.

Hope this helps.
