Tires: Shaking and vibrations, low profile tires, 20 inch wheels

Question
Hi Jack,
I have a 2003 ford explorer 4.0 V6. I had new 20-inch wheels and 275/45/20 goodyear eagle II tires on. I had it re-balanced and alligned. The shaking and vibration was drastically lessened but it still annoys me. At 70mph and higher I still have vibration and shaking of steering wheel. Is this normal for a large rim and low profile tires.

Answer
Hello, Martin
It depends a lot on the wheels and how well balanced they are. Did the folks who mounted them tighten the lugnuts to the right torque?? they may have warped the roter. Goodyears are not bad tires. but anytime you go that big you ask for trouble. Even the Michelins have had uniformity problems.

Tires
Rims
bent rims
warped rotors
tires not seated on the rims

Good luck
Jack
