Question -
What is the maximum size tire I can run on the stock rims of a 2005 Toyota Tacoma? Currently running 245/75 R16.
Answer -
Hello, Ralph
You can go with a 265/70R16. The speedo will be off by about .5% What that means is when it reads 60MPH you are really going 60.3MPH. If you go any bigger it could cause problems with tire wear. If the rim is not wide enough. The tire bows out in the center and will wear faster there.
Good Luck
Jack

Thanks for the feedback Jack. Still don't have a good grasp on aspect ratio. What is the difference b/w 265/70 and 265/75? Overall height of the tire?

Thanks again!...Ralph

Answer
Hello, Ralph
Aspect ratio is a relation to the width and the height. 265/70R16 is about the same width as the 265/75R16 but the 75 is a little taller. 7.3" vs 7.8" sidewall for 75. The 265 should be the total width in mm of the tire from the widest part. Not the tread but where the tire bows out, about half way up the sidewall. we call that the equator of the tire. This would make about a 3.9% differance in the speedo. at 60MPH your really going 62.3MPH
