Tires: Saturn Vue Alternate Tire Size, proper inflation pressure, stock tire size

Question
I have a 2003 Saturn Vue 4cyl AWD. The stock tire size is 235/65-16R. Not many choices available in this size and they are expensive and I am on a limited budget at this time. It is time for me to replace them and I am thinking along the lines of one of the following sizes: 215/70-16, 215/75-16, 225/70-16, 235/70-16, 245/60-16, 245/65-16. Will any of these fit on the rim? and which size would you recommend as the best alternative size? I average about 15k miles a year, and will need an all season tire as I live in North East Pennsylvania and am subject to Snow and sometimes icy conditions.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly apprieciated.

Thanks.

Answer
Daniel,

If I have this right, your vehicle has 6.5" wide rims.  Check your vehicle placard - it's sometimes on there.

The vehicle placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glovebox.  The placard will list the original tire size and proper inflation pressure for the size.

All the tire sizes listed will fit on a 6.5" rim.

2 rules:

1)  Don't go down in load carrying capacity  Load index is a good way to gauge this.

2)  Stay with 3% of the original diameter to keep your speedometer reasonably accurate.

hope this helps.
