Tires: tire selection, michelin ltx m s, bridgestone dueler a t

Question
Hi Jack, I have a 1999 toyota tacoma 5 speed manual non 4 wheel drive. I have to transverse this mountain road to get to my house and have noticed with even a light accumulation of snow that my traction is not the greatest. can you recommend a particular tire and do I need to replace all 4 tires or just the ones that's doing the driving. Thanks

Answer
Hello, Jack

I would say the best tire on the market for snow traction is the Michelin Artic Alpine. But even using this tire on a 2WD truck you need to put some weight in the back. I would only use this tire during the winter because it is made of soft rubber and the tread life really suffers on the hot road. You could probly get away with putting them on the rear only, but realize you still have to steer with those front tires. If you are looking for a good all season tire you can't beat the Michelin LTX M/S or A/T.
The Bridgestone Dueler A/T is also a good choice.

Hope this helps

Jack
