Tires: New Tires for my Excursion 4x4, michelin ltx m s, goodyear wrangler rt s

Question
Howdy

I want to replace the OEM 265/75/r16 load range D tires on my ¾ ton Excursion. The Firestone steel tex tires have worn very well up to the 48,000 miles that are on them now. But would be useless on icy or muddy roads now.

The local tire people have suggested I get Yokohama Geolanders 51. I found some reviews from people who bought geolanders, some said they would never buy them again because they lost MPG, and the traction on snow and wet pavement was poor. Some also mentioned serious problems getting them balanced.

I want to spend around $127.00 a tire. I want longwearing all around good traction. I have no trailers, or campers to pull but I hope to have a camper in the future. I am occasionally on steep country dirt roads with mostly in town and highway driving.

Can you please from your experience suggest a new tire that well;
Not hurt my MPG.
A Tire I can count on when the weather gets bad.
A tire that well wear at least 50,000 miles and still offer good traction and protection from punctures.

Thanks and Happy New Year

Kevin

Answer
Kevin,

The Michelin LTX M+S load range E is the best tire in the class.  but $$.  The Goodyear Wrangler RT/S would be a good one as well in my opinion.  Michelin will run $170 a tire and the wrangler about 149.  The LTX has a 60,000 mile warranty.  good luck.
