Tires: Gooseneck Trailer Tires, tandem axles, good luck jack

Question
Jack,
We currently run LT235/85R16 load range E tires on our two goosenecks, one of which has 2 tandem axles.  We haul mesquite logs and many times overload the respective trailer by 6 - 10000 pounds (our fault).  This overload condition leads to frequent blowouts.  The heat here in the South Texas summers doesn't help either.  As we advance in our business we hope to cut the size of the loads to match the trailer capacity.   Regardless, I have heard of 14 ply tires, load range G which will sub for our current tires and are seemingly  blowout proof.  I've not had any luck in locating any of these replacement tires.  Any advice on this sub or other possibilities?

                            Thanks,
                            Roger

Answer
Hello, Roger
The only 14ply tires I've heard of are aircraft tires. Keep in mind not only are the tires a factor when overloading your trailer. The axles and wheels can't handle that kind of weight for long. I do know people that have gotton away with overloading there trailers with the Michelin LT235/85R16 XPS RIB load range E. They are very costly around $230.00 each

Good Luck
Jack
