Tires: tire pressure, ford escort zx2, proper inflation pressure

Question
Hi!

I just bought a used Ford ZX2 and have no manual or maintance information for it... I wonder if you know what tire pressure is recommended for this car. I have the standard premium wheels with 185/60R15 tires. Thanks for taking the time!

Answer
Look for the placard on your vehicle.  The placard, among many things, tells the original tire size and the proper inflation pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box.

I like to use 3 to 5 psi above the placard.  I get better fuel economy, better tire wear, better wet traction, better snow traction, better steering response, better tire durability, and only give up a bit of ride harshness.

"They" say you should check your tire pressures once a month.

I happen to have a book that summarizes the placard info and  it says a Ford Escort ZX2 with P185/60R15's should be inflated to 32 psi front 35 psi rear, except for 1999 models where it's 32 psi front and rear.

Hope this helps.
