Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: high rpm in top gear, suzuki intruder 800, internet user group

Question
I have recently purchased 1995 suzuki intruder vs 800. I know very little about the bike but it seems to run hi rpm in fifth gear. the bike does not have a tach. if u r not sure what the rpm should be at 60,70 mph where can i find this info. Its supposed to be a custom cruzer but sounds more whiny. Thanks, Brett

Answer
Brett,

I do not have firsthand experience with the Suzuki Intruder 800. However, I do know from past experience that many motorcycles will sound and feel as though they could use another top gear. I notice your model is a 5 speed. In 1995 4 and 5 speed motorcycles were the standard.

I looked at some websites to see what owners were saying about the VS800. I did notice a few comments that it could use a 6 gear so evidently other owners share your observations. More positively though I noticed the overwhelming number of positive comments on the Suzuki's performance.

I suggest that you do some internet searches and find an owners group for the Intruder. It has been my experience that a wealth of knowledge can be found within the membership of those groups. Whenever I buy a new-to-me motorcycle I join the internet user group for that model.

I'm sorry I cannot offer you more specific advice however, I'm confident you will find the information you are seeking on a Suzuki Intruder owners forum.

Thank you for your question, please let me know if there is anything I can help with.

Regards,

Tom Wright
