Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: What size bike???, best motorcycle, motorcycle safety foundation

Question
Hi, I am a 26 year old female and I am wondering what size bike I should get.  I rode some when I was in junior high but overall I would say I am a beginner.  I am 5'2" and weigh about 120.  What would you recommend?

Answer
Brandi - this question is one that I am asked frequently, and it is one that is very difficult to answer.  First, there would be many different models that would work for you, just considering your height and weight, and many more that could be modified to "fit" you.  But, there are also other factors that one should consider in determining the "best" bike, including your level of experience, your favored riding style and your intended use of the motorcycle.

I suggest first that you seek instruction through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, or a private licensed motorcycle training class.  You should obtain your "M" endorsement on your license before beginning your search for a motorcycle.

Then, once you have gotten the appropriate training, and have your motorcycle license, you should visit a dealer and sit on various motorcycles, to assess them for "fit" and "feel."

Sorry that I can't give you a more definitive answer to your question.  There are more and more manufacturers trying to appeal to women motorcyclists, and each has a model that would work.  But, first, you need the proper training in skills and safety on the road.
