Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Neck pain, long, ride

Question
I get severe net pain on right side on longer rides. I Read your rsvp to another sufferer ie hold bike w/ lower body and keep grip light and change positions. I would like to hear about any stretches or exercise to go along with you riding advise. Any other hints?

Thanks
Steve

Answer
Even though it may sound simple enough, keep hydrated. Half of riders' fatigue related problems are probably attributable to just that.

Don't skimp on an Aleve or Advil once in awhile during the ride. One or two before hand, and one or two throughout the day.

Take frequent breaks. Seriously, you need to stop and stretch your legs (and neck) at least every 60-80 miles.

Change position frequently while riding. Sit closer, sit farther away, grip with your legs, grip with your hands, rock your neck and shoulders every ten to fifteen minutes or so for a few seconds.

When you start to notice your neck getting sore, stop and hydrate, stretch your neck. Also, lie on your back and stretch your back by pulling your knees up to your chest, one at a time, from different angles.

Keeping your whole body loose will make your rely less on your neck and help keep the pain at bay.
