Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: clutch and brake together, good habit, smooth transfer

Question
Can you hold the clutch while holding the front brake lever in the same time?

Answer
Engaging the clutch allows smooth transfer of power from the engine to the rear wheel when starting out and changing gears while moving. When stopping, the clutch should always be disengaged (squeezed in) to remove power from the rear wheel as you don't need engine power to stop. Engine power is for going. I would also suggest that while you holding that clutch in as you are braking, that you also shift to first gear to be prepared to start out again after your stop. Stopping in first gear is also a good habit to develop as a defense against being rear ended. If you are stopping to park, it is also a good idea to park the bike in gear for stability.
