Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Driving Test, motorcycle test, car licence

Question
Hi,

Do you know the reason why it takes around 5 months to pass motorcycle test in Hong Kong ? even if you already have a car license

Thanks

Answer
Hi Max

First, I left HK in 2004 so things may have changed, but I doubt it. The official information can be found here (cut & paste to use):

In the Hong Kong system you are allocated your test date when you apply for your motorcycle provisional licence. I presume they just allow a reasonable amount of time for people to prepare for the test, unlike other countries where you put in for the test when YOU think you are ready.

Just because you have a car licence does not mean learning a motorcycle is going to be any easier; yes, you may know the theory and the road system/road signs etc. but there is still a lot to be learned about handling a motorcycle and riding it in traffic.

At least they let you out on the HKSofM bikes to practise. My wife did hers while we lived there.
