Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: motorcycle suggestions, 2005 suzuki sv650s, triumph street triple 675

Question
Thank you in advance for your time. Now to business. I am having trouble finding a bike I would like to purchase. My problem is my size, combined with my desires in a motorcycle. I am only 5'6" tall, with a 30" inseam. I had a 2005 Suzuki SV650S, and I loved it, except it's height and stretched out feel. I was always jammed against the gas tank. Then not too long ago, I sat on a friends GSX-R1000, and it fit me like a glove. I know I don't have the skill to wield 1000cc's. Any suggestions for a smaller bike that is sporty(please no inline 4's)and yet more comfortable, and not too tall? I was thinking the GS500, but how much poop does it have? I do live by an interstate with a 75 mph limit that I occasionally will have to ride on.

Answer
You are really tall enough to ride most bikes and particularly lucky in that a lot of your height is in your legs.

Many people don't make enough use of the height they have. You only need to put one foot down positively. This is better than tip-toeing about on both feet, almost off-balance. If you need to, shift your butt in the seat a little to the side you want to put a foot down.

A bike that is selling like hot cakes to riders of your size is the new Triumph Street Triple 675; the sports-fared version is the Daytona 675. Try one. I think you'd love it. Brilliant handling, 108hp and light enough for anyone to ride.

Glad you enjoy your riding so much!
