Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Emergency Braking and downshifting, speed focus, downshift

Question
Most experts recommend to focus on braking in case of an emergency and take care of getting in the right gear after.  It's probably fine if you plan to stop, but if you don't need to stop, it's easy to find yourself in the wrong gear.  In your book you recommend to focus on downshifting first and then start braking harder.  Would I just pull the clutch and  try to quickly downshift two or three times without  releasing the clutch to match the speed?

Thanks,
Alex

Answer
If my book was not clear, I apologize.

In an emergency, your best option is nearly always going to be to reduce speed. Focus on braking, shifting is secondary. Obviously, it's critical to practice the technique using simultaneous braking and downshifting in order to be practiced in achieving the best gear.

Yes, you're best off to squeeze the clutch and do your downshifts without releasing until you're ready to go again.
