Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: question, land speed record, indian scout

Question
Hi I'm doing a report on Burt Monroe for my school and I was Just Wondering What is Burt Monroe's Land Speed Record?, What was the previous record?, What type of bike did he use? and what day was it broken?. I'd Really appreciate it if you could answer back ASAP.

Yours Sincerely,
Lottie

Answer
Not really my expertise but here is what I know.
The Anthony Hopkins film, "The fastest Indian" is based on Burt Monroes speed record career.
In 1967, sorry I don't know the month, he hit an average of 183 MPH having already hit 190 MPH on the first run. The average of two runs are required for an official record. The previous record was around 120 MPH.
The bike was an Indian Scout, bored out to 950cc from the original 600cc.
Burt died in 1978.
I hope this helps and good luck with the project.
