Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Best of both worlds, honda vfr800fi, bmw k1200r

Question
I've been riding for over 10 years and have been riding almost exclusively
hondas. I started on and old '82 CB900C (still my favorite bike) had a magna,
then most recently had a VT1100 Sabre for about 3 years. A few months ago,
I had the chance to ride a BMW K1200R, which I instantly fell in love with for
its awesome performance.

Now that I'm looking for a new bike, I'm wanting the long-distance comfort of
the larger cruisers with a little more performance and handling. I love cruising
to the mountains on scenic rides, but I want a little more "umph" to cure my
performance fix in the curves and bends. If I could marry the Sabre and BMW
into one bike, I would.

In your opinion, what kind of bike should I be looking for that might satisfy
both of these factors?

Answer
The Honda VFR800FI Interceptor and the ST1300 (or older ST1100) are probably what you're looking for. You get the Honda V4 smoothness and power (the VFR uses basically the same engine as the Magna) in a comfortable, nimble package. And mechanically, they're very low maintenance. The VFR is pretty sporty; the ST is more sport-toury or toury.

I regularly do 400-500 mile days on the VFR, some days as many as 700 when I'm focused.
