Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: speed control, kawasaki mule, inch bolt

Question
I have a 1997 kawasaki mule model 2510.I need to slow it down for safety issues.Any idea on aspeed control device.

Answer
I’m only going to suggest this because it is an off-road vehicle and probably operated outside of public areas.

Also, I’m not an expert on ATV’s and there may in fact be a better solution.  You could check with the local service center.

However, from what I’ve found in the manuals that I have available, one solution may be to drill a hole under the throttle pedal.  Use about a ½ inch drill.

Then, get a ½-inch bolt about 2 inches long.  Also, find two nuts and two large heavy washers.

Insert the bolt into the hole in such a way that you can hold it tight with the two nuts, and use those nuts to adjust the length of the bolt to give the desired amount of throttle pedal travel.  (Adjust it so the throttle hits the top of the bolt, not the floor).

On a column-mounted throttle, you could do the same thing, but will need to enlist the services of a welder.

Had it not been for a few glasses of wine, I wouldn’t have even suggested this, but it just might have the desired effect.

Cheers
