Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Tires, metzler m1, metzler z6

Question
I have a 2005 1200RT.  The tire spec's for the bike call for a Metzler Z6, Michlin Pilot Road, or Conti Road Attack.  It came originally with Metzler Z6's. When I bought the bike the original owner had a new set of Metzler M1's in the correct size for the bike that he threw in on the deal.  They are really intended for a sport bike not a sport touring bike. They are the correct size but I don't know of there is anything else about the specifications for that tire that would make it unsafe or undesireable to run on the RT.  What do you think? I hate to throw away the tires but I tend to ride both hard and fast and don't want to end up in the ditch over a set of free tires.  Thank you.

Answer
Personally, I'd try them. They're likely to be stickier than the spec tires but wear quicker. Who knows, you may decide you like those better!

I doubt you'll have any safety issues, though I would pay close attention to them early on to make sure it's not getting overhot due to carrying more weight.

You may have to experiment with tire pressure to get the feel/temperature just right, but I can't see any reason to toss a perfectly good set of tires.
