Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: running issues, kawasaki zx7r, fuel hoses

Question
I have a 96 kawasaki zx7r(p1) i was going down the road and it felt like it dropped a coil. cyl 4 was missing. Took it to a shoppe compression was ok and it passed cyl. leak down test. I was told that the carbs needed rebuilt because idle to 4500 rpm there was no power from 4500 and up it came out of it ran perfect. so rebuilding the carbs costed me 500.00 and didnt fix any thing it was doing the same thing as it was before. He  rode it with out the air box and it helped a lil bit. but it wouldnt come out of the slump till bout 2200 rpm. to much air with it off and not enough with it on.  Im lost im out 500.00 dollars and its been in the shoppe for 7 weeks any info would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
When I've had this problem before, we started from the top down: replace or install the in line fuel filter, check the fuel hoses for pinching/tweaking, check the jets, and check the coils.

An easy way to see if it's a coil problem is to switch two coils and see if the problem changes cylinders. It sounds like either a dud coil or possibly a clogged jet.
