Auto Insurance Claims: Liability, car owner, small claims

Question
My son borrowed a friend's car (both 17) - he bumped into a truck and casused $400 DAMAGES.  The parents are taking me to small claims - am I reponsibile to pay for his accidents?

Answer
Generally speaking, the owner of the vehicle (the friend's car) has first responsibility for the damages.  However, the car owner can then turn around and collect from the driver who was responsible which is your son.  Whether you are responsible for the damages caused by your minor child of 17, I have no way of knowing as the laws regarding this will differ from state to state.

Good luck!
