Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: gear layout for the transmission on LS650, ls650, msf basic rider course

I was just given an '86 Suzuki LS650 Savage and I would like to know how the gears are ordered starting at the bottom because it is hard for me to find neutral so I don't know which gear is all the way at the bottom or top.

First is all the way at the bottom. Fifth is all the way at the top. Almost every motorcycle works the same way.

Neutral is between first and second.

It sounds as if you are new. I highly recommend taking the MSF basic rider course before you try to ride that bike. If you don't know what you're doing and you're out on the road in traffic, even the little Suzuki can kill you!
