Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Slime sealant, wheel balance, long distances

Question
Hi Steve,
I was wondering about your opinion on the safety and use of Slime sealant for tubeless motorcycle tires. I ride and '87 Ninja 1000R and am interested in possibly using Slime as some flat insurance as I travel long distances frequently.
Does this stuff work, and what are its pros and cons. Thanks for sharing any info you may have.
Sincerely,
Gary. Tampa,Fl

Answer
Hi Gary

I do not know any serious biker that will recommend slime. Wheel balance is a critical part of handling and anything that can affect it (with time) is a no-no.

A can of tyre foam that you can keep in your backpack and use when you do get a flat is a far better solution

The only reason to use slime is that you live in Florida which has biking weather all year round. This may prevent the stuff from 'clumping' as it is prone to doing (over time). Another possible reason is that you never go fast enough for wheel im-balance to be a factor
