Used Cars: my mechanic discovered dry rot on 2 tires, bumper to bumper warranty, hems and haws

Question
Hi I just bought a certified pre-owned 2010 Chevy Suburban with 37,000 miles on it in march.  I still have the 100,000 -5 yr powertrain warranty but the 3 yr -36k mile warranty had run out.  But the dealer gives me a 90 day bumper to bumper warranty.  we just took the car to our private mechanic and he said everything looks good except for 2 tires show dry rot and i should ask the dealer about them.  will they cover this under the 90 day bumper to bumper warranty?  should this have passed their inspection to have it certified and then pass an inspection to get a sticker?
thanks

Answer
Hi Kevin,
Great question Kevin... You asked if the tires would be covered under the 90 day dealer underwritten bumper to bumper warranty and the answer is NO. Those warranties do not cover things like tires brakes, wipers, or any other part that is expected to wear out with use. Here is how you address this issue with the dealer to get the tires replaced at no cost to you.

The GM Certified Pre-Owned(CPO)Program requires that the vehicle pass a rigorous inspection process. The numbers considered to be acceptable are much higher than normal across the board. If the vehicle was ever in an accident requiring paint work ...it couldn't be certified ... etc etc. Those two tires DONOT pass the standards required of a certified Pre-owned Chevrolet Suburban and as such needs to be addressed and fixed BEFORE it can be sold as a CPO GM. Bring this point to the dealers attention and he will need to fix it to certify the vehicle ...if the dealer hems and haws and doesn't offer to fix the problem and you decide to dig in and make him do what he is required to do then simply tell him that you will be reporting the issue to GM ...You will get your tires... Let me know if you have any follow up questions because I am committed to stay with you and answer all of them until you are completely satisfied with my answers!!  and can give me perfect survey scores!!!
