Used Cars: Fleet vehicles, fleet cars, fleet companies

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I am sorry...but I did not ask that question again. I sent a question asking about Fleet vehicles, rental cars. And if they were good to buy or not? I was asking because they have had so many drivers using them. I don't know why you thought I had asked the same question? Sorry for the confusion.

ANSWER: Oh ok, I received a question that i had already answered. I personally dont mind a fleet vehicle since most fleet companies have a service department that takes care of them on a pretty regular schedule. Rental cars however I am not a fan of. To many people drive those cars that are not responsible for the maintenance of them. With a fleet car typically the person assigned the vehicle is also given a log book to keep track of any scheduled work that needs to be done and there mechanics do all of the work in house. So my answer would be yes to a fleet car and no to a rental. Not that all rentals are bad but the chances that they were abused is much greater. Hope this helps, have a Merry Christmas!  Shane

QUESTION: OH THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE! :) BUT WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FLEET AND A RENTAL. I THOUGHT - THAT IT WAS THE SAME?  :)

Answer
A "Fleet" is a group of cars owned by the same company and used by their company. For example Walmart has several fleets of cars. Once they get to a certain amount of miles or years old then they sell them at an auction.  I would be very comfortable buying those cars for my lot(and I have). A rental car is part of a fleet used by the company to make a profit renting them out. A "fleet" car is not bad if you buy from a company that services their own vehicles. K-Mart, Sears, McDonalds and Walmart are a few of the best. Stay away from fleet cars that were owned by rental companies, Hertz, Enterprise, Budget, etc.  All rentals are a part of a fleet but not all fleet cars are rentals. The term "fleet of cars" just means "group of cars". Take Care, Shane
