Used Cars: bad credit auto loan, chapter 13 bankruptcy, bad credit auto loan

Question
Hi Mr Alvey, I live in Missouri and I want to buy a used car. The problem is that I didn't re-establish my credit after my chapter 13 bankruptcy was discharged so I have no credit score. (I know, DUH!) After checking online I found automotive.com and autocreditexpress.com and was thinking about applying with one of them. I was wondering if you are familiar with either of them. The better business bureau gives them high marks and they appear to be reliable. I appreciate your time and expert advice. Thank you, Brenda

Answer
I know them both ...DONOT APPLY ON THESE WEBSITES! Will they do what they said? Yes they will they sell those leads ...which are called credit app leads because you give up all your info and permission to pull your credit. Read that last sentence again. Who are you granting this permission too? Everyone they sell your name too in the network of sub prime dealers in your area. if you apply at both you might wake up tomorrow and realize that there have been 20 pulls of your credit. Now when the credit bureau people see that they say they treat it as one or maybe two inquiries and not 20 but who really knows ... additionally you would then have 20 different (possibly) dealers calling you trying to get you to "come in ...come on down and lets see what we can do" and when you say "am i approved?"  they say "it looks like we might have a way to go" ... You can control the distribution of your personal information allot better with the same or better results by simply looking at dealer ads on craigs list where they will usually tell you they can finance anyone etc. How long ago was your 13 discharged? was it discharged or dismissed? if it was discharged then congratulations most people don't have the ability to make 36-60 payments to the trustee and fail in chapter 13's. The fact that you completed a 13 is testament to your ability and desire to make your payments and is a little bit better than a 7. To get an auto loan you may have to be somewhat flexible on the car that will work for the bank. Every good F and I and Desk guy at a dealership has a couple of banks who will finance fresh BK's and even open BK's. The best bank I know of for fresh BK's is one that you may have in your area here is a link to Prestige Financial Services. This bank is owned by the Larry Miller auto people who have dealerships all over the US https://www.gopfs.com/webpages/newsroom.aspx
They aren't anywhere near as abusive as the standard finance co's who do Fresh Bk's and will loan you enough money to allow you to get a decent ride and at rates low enough you can pay for it. If it were me I would not use anyone else. They have an online application. I just looked and Prestige offers loans through their indirect lending department to select dealers in Missouri ...so thats good! You donot need to have a credit score to qualify with this bank and I recommend them highly Hope this helps  if you have any follow up questions please feel free to ask my email is roadloans@gmail.com and if for any reason you can't give me a perfect rating then get back to me and I will continue to answer any questions you have until you can...thanks  Roger
