Pontiac Repair: Pontiac Grad Prix 2003, chevron techron fuel system, pontiac grad prix

Question
My 2003 Grand Prix, V6 has been hesitating then lurching when I press the gas from a dead stop.  This seems worse as it is warming up and as a result occurs inconsistently, but has gotten more frequent in the past month.  Being female I am concerned about taking it to the shop and being told it is more serious than it is and will cost alot to repair.  Any idea of what the problem is would make me feel more prepared.  Thank you, Ann

Answer
Hi Ann:
which V6 does this have 3800 or 3100 V6? If it's a 3800 engine I would suspect that you have a mass air flow sensor that's going bad. It' quite common for this engine. If it's the 3100 engine it can be a lot of things a MAss air flow sensor is not out of the question but less common on this engine. It can be something as simple as a plugged fuel filter that is a maintenance item that is ALWAYS over looked! On either engine a vacuum leak can cause issues but if that were the case you would notice an increased idle speed at a stop light or stop sign. Dirty fuel injectors can cause all kinds of issues that would be more from the 3100 engine then the 3800. You can try a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner in the tank that product works wonders! ! ! . those are My ideas for now. Good luck :)
