Used Cars: Used car sale, buick lasabre, worse case scenario

Question
My 90 year young father may sale his car, 1999 Buick LaSabre that is fully loaded. I was reseaching the Kelly Blue Book to get an idea of a sale price. He put a new engine in the car at 75,000 miles. Do we sale at the milage that the odometer shows and allow the propective buyer to reap the benefit?

Thank you in advance.

Answer
Joanne,
Well there is only 1 legal way to do it, and that is as you suggested and use the mileage on the odometer of the vehicle as the true mileage.  And just some general information to keep in the back of your mind when selling this.  If this were me trying to sell this car, I would not mention anything about replacing the engine, unless somebody starts questioning how much life may be left in this car and here is why.  Most of those cars have the 3.8 V6 engine, those people that know these cars well enough, will know that is one of the best engines GM ever built, and if you tell them that you put a new motor in it at 75k, they may question why it went out that early, giving indications that the vehicle may not have been taken care of like it should have been.  Just dont volunteer that information, only provide it in the event you feel it will help you, not hurt you.
Second thing is these are some of the best cars on the road, however, they are really tough to sell because young people view them as "Old People" cars if you will, and no price is cheap enough to get them to want this car. Most of the elder people who may have interest in this car, and have the cash to buy it, will probably want something newer and lower mileage.  This car will probably have a pretty good book value, but the market value is not that good, dont stay at MAX price on this car, or you will have it a long time.  And the worst thing for a car to do, is just sit around, things will go bad.  Worse case scenario, plan for tax time, when people get big amounts of cash.  Good Luck!  I hope everything goes well and if you have any further questions feel free to ask!
