Used Cars: salvage title in atlanta want clean title in mi

hello shane how are you. i just bought an 09 honda accord that has a salvage title in atlanta. i would like to register the car here in michigan but would like to avoid the salvage title michigan would give me. the car is in better shape then the salvage status what would you recommend. i was told if i register the car in new york that i would receive a clean title and then bring back title to michigan and i would have clear title status.

Hi Wally thanks for the question. What you would like to do is called "title washing" and is possible but considered un-ethical and dishonest. As a dealership employee cannot give you any advise on how to do this. There have been instances of vehicles being titled in other states to "clean" them but I wouldn't recommend doing it. The Carfax or Auto Check history reports may already have the salvage information and if you did get a clean title from another state you could be subject to felony charges in all three states involved. One thing to remember is the title is branded "salvage" because an Insurance co has paid a major claim that exceeded the value of the car. It has nothing to do with the condition of a car now.
