Used Cars: Used Santa Fe (thanks!), hyundai santa fe, santa fe gls

Question
Hello, and thanks for helping me out! :)  I am looking at a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS with a 3.5 engine and along with all the fun stuff (heated seats moonroof) it has 171,000 miles on it (which the owner says are highway and since the vehicle isn't that old i am not against that theory)
He says that it needs a new transmission, and he can get one installed for $1000 ( this includes parts and labor mind you ) and im wondering if that is an even feasible price for a NEW tranny? Also after that gets replaced his asking price is a negotiable $4450, overall does this sound too good to be true or rather does it sound like a nightmare just beginning? Thanks again!!

Answer
Hello Kat,
$1000.00  will not get you a New tranny for any car out there installed, I would ask for receipts for this new tranny and call the place that did the work to ensure that it was done. Take it to a mechanic to get a inspection after the tranny is done to make sure you are not buying yourself a problem car.
