Used Cars: mechanical issue within 5 miles of purchase of used vehicle, honda of keene, toyota sequoia

Question
Hi Ray,
I bought a used 2001 Toyota Sequoia with <70K miles on it. During the test drive, the check engine light came on and when I mentioned it to the GM of the dealership where I bought it (Honda of Keene) it was checked out and I was told it was nothing, just an error code.  After picking up the vehicle, I got 5.1 miles down the road when the check engine light came on again.  I immediately returned it to the dealership (with a total of about 11 miles driven since purchase) and discovered that the manifold was leaking. I would not have purchased this vehicle if I had known about this issue.  Do I have any recourse or am I stuck with the vehicle?

Answer
Hi Tumu

If the dealership will not fix the problem then yes you been had, as I am 100% sure they knew there were problems with this vehicle, after only 11 miles driving, and if dealer will not fix shows you been dealing with a shady dealer, as for recourse, you most likely bought AS IS and with no warranty.

When you buy a car and want value for your bucks there are steps to follow, and you did not, had you read this link  http://www.usedcartips.org/TESTDRI.html on my website prior to buying, you would not be in the fix your in now.

Bookmark the website, and when the time comes to purchase another vehicle contact me with details prior to purchase and I will be only to happy to help you get fair value.

Sorry Tumu... I can't help you after the fact

Ray
