Used Cars: truck with no title, chevy s10, s10 truck

Question
I have a 2000 Chevy S10 Truck. My Son purchased this truck, I have a bill of sale. The kid that sold him the truck was supposed to get the  title for him but did not. My Son has passed away, I cannot find this person and would really like to get rid of this as I can surely use some cash. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
You need to go to the DMV with the Bill of sale and the VIN # of the truck. Bring with you the death Cert. of your son. With this information they can pull up the information needed to get a new title. There will be a fee involved, in Michigan it is $15 for the title and a $15 late fee ( the fee is if it has been more than 15 days to apply for the title since he bought the truck). They will only do this for your son's spouse (if married), you (if he was under 18), or the person in charge of his estate. The only problem you may run into is if the seller(the guy your son got it from) never put it in his name. If this is the case than you may be able to apply for an "Abandoned Vehicle" title, this will take some time because the state tracks the previous owners to see who the last rightful owner was. Once they locate this person they simply have that person release right to the vehicle and it will be granted to you. Good luck and sorry for your loss, Hope this helps. Take Care Shane
