Used Cars: Selling a used car, pin joints, small claims court

Question
I recently sold a 1969 Chevy Nova, a project car, to a 16 year old. The kid and his friend came to look at the car and later that night we met with his Dad to sign the title and collect the $4,000. The kid said he wanted a project car to make into a race car. He took possession and I believe he has already taken the title to the currency exchange to be transferred to his name. He called 5 days later and said that there is too much work to be done to the car, the frame, pin joints etc . We had already repaired much rust, floor boards, doors, etc. We were very clear that this was a project car. He wants to return the car and get his money back. His dad then called and threatened that he knows county judges and lawyers. The kida called the next day and said he is going to small claims court. DO you have any experience in a situation like this? My feeling is that this is not JCPenny and we do not accept returns....your thoughts.

Answer
Hi Marcy

Buying privately is simply buying "as is". When you purchase privately, you're buying a car exactly as you see it .... any problems the car has become your problems.

You got the money that is all that matters, they call you 5 days later, that alone is a joke, the deal was sealed the moment you had cash in hand.

Next contact... Simply say... If you want to persue this matter further take me to court, but please stop calling or I will contact police.

PS... I dont care whom his dad knows, be it the Senator of State, you will win this case hands down. To understand about buying a vehicle private, check this link on my website    http://www.usedcartips.org/privatevsdealer.html
