Used Cars: importing a car from the u.s, mercedes c230, speedo conversion

Question
is it worth heading into the U.S. to buy a car?  i hear so many boarder stories about conversion problems.  i would love a 05 Mercedes c230 and the price difference between Canada and the U.S makes it seem like such a good idea.  How can i get around the speedo conversion?  and what about customs? Who you advise buy state side for a really good deal?

Answer
Hello Chad,
My opinion to U.S. Cars is normally favorable, the only manufacturer there is huge ( and i mean huuuuuuge) problems with is Mercedes Benz. When you bring the vehicle here, it must go to the dealership for an inspection , they will them force you to change the speedo into a Canadian one (even though you can press a button and they change into kms) otherwise it will not pass! Get ready for a $5000.00 bill just for the parts.. then worry about labor ! Seems Mercedes Canada is not very happy with people buying from the U.S. and will keep putting you on the back burner when you need help (only because you bought from the U.S.) this has happened to many people I know, and a few of them almost missed the deadline of having the car registered in Canada (due to the dealerships taking their time to help you )  I Strongly DO NOT recommend bringing on of those in !
