Used Cars: High Mileage, mileage vehicles, mileage vehicle

Question
I am looking into purchasing a 2004 Chevy Colorado, however it does have 105,000 miles on it already. Is that considered a high-mileage for that year of a vehicle, and are there a lot of risks that you have found in purchasing a high mileage vehicle? Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Well I am pretty versed in high mileage vehicles, the car lot I currently run is primarily high mileage vehicles.  That is considered high mileage for that year, but as long as you only paid what it is worth, I would not be to concerned about that type of mileage.  I have not had any of the Chevy Colorados come through here as of yet so my advice to you would be to go to a website like kbb.com, or edmunds.com and check out how these vehicles are holding up after 100k miles, as per what the customers are saying.  I would still run a carfax report, and have the vehicle checked out by a mechanic of YOUR choice.  Now a day, High miles is not a major concern, if they have been maintained properly.  I figure the only way they put that kind of mileage on that vehicle, in that time frame, is probably Highway mileage, and that is the best kind of mileage you can put on a vehicle, much better than stop and go driving, or running around town.  You should be able to go to a local New Chevy Dealership, and have them run a Warranty History on the vehicle, that is a report that shows everything that was done on the vehicle under the warranty, and see what it looks like.  If the Warranty history is good, the carfax is good, the mechanic inspection goes well, and in general they have a good reputation, I would not be concerned with that type of mileage, just make sure you get a good deal on it, because you should, with it having that type of mileage.  I hope all goes well and let me know if I can be of further assistance.
