Used Cars: 2001 Lexus IS 300, lexus is 300, reliable cars

Question
Hi Zach,

I have a quick question regarding a 2001 Lexus Is 300 for sale.  I have always dreamed of owning that particular vehicle, especially the older body type.  I am looking to purchase one with 95,000 miles on it.  It is priced at just under $10K.  Would it be a worthwhile purchase for a vehicle with that many miles?  I know Lexus' are solid cars but would this be more of a repair investment than an actual vehicle purchase?  Thanks for your time and I look forward to hearing your answer.

Answer
average auction price for this vehicle is $7500 dollars, with this amount of mileage.  Just make sure that you can afford to spend $1000 to $2000 dollars in repairs if you had to and it was your only transportation. If it is more of a recreational vehicle or fun car, you would not have to fix things all at once but on a case by case basis.  It always breaks my heart to hear someone that finally bought their dream car, as a daily transportation driver, spent all of there money on the purchase and now can't drive because they can't afford the repairs. As a rule these are reliable cars and if well maintained by the previous owner(s) they could last much longer. Don't buy a car like this at an auto auction, they are someone elses problems.
