Used Cars: trading in car with lost title, car tomorrow, power of attorney

We are trading in our car tomorrow at a dealership. We cannot find the title. It has been payed off for 3 years. We live in Missouri and are buying in Illinois.  Is this going to be problem?

Absolutely it will.  You need to apply for a lost title.  If you can not wait until the 3 days it takes to get in, then you will need to sign a power of attorney at the dealership, and have the title mailed to them.  Now, understanding that laws are different in the different states, you really need to call the dealership where you are purchasing the vehicle and ask them what you should do.
