Used Cars: owner needs money to pay lien, bill of sale, court case

Question
I buying a used truck owner needs the money to pay-off lien then he will give me the title and truck. What should I do?

Answer
I wouldn't give any cash without heavily (and legally, local DMV should have official bill of sale and other documentation) documenting the exchange.  There is always a chance that things go wrong, if you decide to pay him for it, make sure you have signed and written proof of the agreement that will hold up in court if something goes bad.  Other than that its your risk, if you pay him and it gets wrecked before you have the title, or stolen, etc... well the risk is there, make sure you have such situations typed out as some sort of legal agreement... signed and dated... too risky if you ask me, but as long as you document everything well, if something does go wrong atleast you have a court case that will hold up.
