Used Cars: Used V.S. New?, many cars, searching the internet

I've read that a used car as opposed to a new one is a very good investment. But I was curious if you knew the statistic of how many cars driven today are used versus new? I can't expect most people can afford a new one? Also I've seen a lot of people younger than me even driving SUVs and other large vehicles, do you think they likely own them, or are leasing them? Just curious. Thanks.
