Trucking: class of license for hot shot, gcwr, c driver

Question
Hi i read your response on needing of cdl for a truck and trailer..
My questions is if i have just a class c driver license can i still drive my truck and trailer to do hot shot jobs, i read about the 26.000 pounds but what about the extra freight on trailer or the limit total is 26.000.
sorry if i'm to dumb but i want to nok everything before i do some changes on it.

Max, the way I read the regulation:
Class A -- Any combination of vehicles with a GCWR of 26,001...
is that you need a Class A CDL to haul a commercial vehicle over 26,000#
But I am not a lawyer, so if there is a different interpretation, I am open to listen.
