Trucking: age and turnover, desirable companies, dmv report

Question
Hello Jim,
Wanted to get your take on if you think 58 is too old to acquire a CDL and enter the word of trucking, though not long-haul. I can't get over the flood of ads I see in my big-city newspaper for drivers and training schools. Is the need that great or is this overkill? Any advice for an older guy?
Thanks for the volunteer service you provide. I'm a former "AllExperts" too, so I know this can be a job in itself.
Regards,
Ed

Answer
Ed, 58 is not too o;d as long as you can pass the DOT physical and have a safe driving record.  Yes they will look at your personal DMV report.  Having said that most good companies will require two years of recent verifiable experience. This means you might have to endure driving jobs for a couple of years for less desirable companies, but if you can get through that clean you will be in demand.  Best of luck.  Jim
