Trucking: grain hauling, straight truck, truck experience

Question
I am 52 years old. have a class a CDL with tanker and double/triples endorsements. I have done very little work with a 53' trailer for a delivery service, and 3 years straight truck experience. accident/ticket free. that is my extent. there is a grain hauling company near where I live. they own all equipment.in your opinion, would I even have a shot at this? other than driving, what other responsibilities would i have. I would still be driving straight truck, but I have gotten a breathing problem and get too winded loading/unloading. I still love the workout, but the dock workers got too nervous about it. Can't tell you what it would mean to get an answer. really appreciate it.THANK YOU

Answer
Jim, you definitely "have a shot" at it.  In normal times there is such demand for safe qualified drivers and you would have no problem.  In this economy there are lots of well qualified drivers looking for work so it is more competitive but I have heard carriers like FedEx National are hiring new drivers so that's a good sign.  If this one doesn't work out for you it's just a matter of time if you keep looking.
Best of luck.
Jim.
