Trucking: Authority, usdot number, suize

Question
I have an opportunity to deliver 1 day a week some basic common product to a friends warehouse. I do not need a tractor trailer just a straight truck or smaller. I would like to know if I need my own authority to provide this service? I plan on renting a truck at first and they provide liability insurance I would just need cargo insurance for a small amount of product, say $25000 per load. I will only be operating this truck 1 day a week as I have another job that pays well and provides insurance. Do I need a dot # for a truck this size? Any other information would be helpful.. Thanks Donald

Answer
Donald,
I think you will need a USDOT number.

You may or may not need operating authority depending your scope of operation:

You may or may not need a CDL depending on the suize of the truck:

Best bet is to consult with a transportation attorney for advise.

Hope this helps.
