Answer
Bobby...

Let's take one issue at a time and deal with the DAC report first.  I really couldn't answer your question about insurance as an owner-operator anyway unless I have a lot more details.  I recommend you get your report and then we can discuss the insurance issues after you know what is in it.

A driver's DAC (old term) report is similar to a person's credit report in that it may contain information about the driver's record and many other factors.  It is now a service provided The United States Investigation Services, (USIS), which is an information and security services company. The report is similar in that when you apply for a job as a truck driver, the first thing the prospective trucking company will check is your report.

The report is divided in to two separate parts.  One is simply your MVR.  The second part is about your work record.  The information contained in the second part will be from what your previous employers have reported about your work habits, reliability, punctuality, social behavior, cooperation or lack of, etc.  Unfortunately, some companies may report negative information or submit it in such a one sided view, it can be very damaging for your employment prospects.  The number of negative or unflattering entries can be a very persuasive factor in whether you are hired or not.

I highly recommend every driver obtain a copy of their report at least every three years, or more often if they've changed companies frequently.  That may provide them more of an opportunity to dispute and counter any inaccurate or false information that is in the report.  There is (may be) a fee, but it may also be well worth the cost to give you the opportunity to correct the record.

Here are the contacts for USIS to obtain your report.

I'll be posting a complete section on DAC reports, how to get them and how to challenge them on the Stop Illegal Trucking website (http://www.stopillegaltrucking.com/) very soon.  This seems to be an area that drivers are not very familiar with but the companies certainly are and they use them regularly.  Since it is of such importance to the driver, we at "Stop Illegal Trucking" will try to help educate drivers on the subject.

I understand AskTheTrucker.com is also working on a report to submit to congress addressing the reporting of false information by motor carrier companies.  They have also set up a website dedicated to this subject.  It can be found at.........

I hope this helps and if I can be any further service just let me know.  And please don't forget to read and rate this answer.  There are few things more frustrating for the volunteers here than to make the effort research the answers to someone's question and then the questioner never even returns to read them.

Thanks again....
