Trucking: CDL school and prospects, cdl training schools, cdl school

Question
Hi,
Maybe you don't have specifics, but could you give me some general ideas about this?
-What is the cost range to go to a tractor-trailer driving school and the approximate time to completion?
-Is it important to go to a school in the same state in which you live?
-Schools will probably give an unrealistic job placement percentage.  Do you have any statistics or thoughts on this issue?

Answer
Hi Art...
You're right, I can only give you a general answer about cost since the each school tuition varies over a wide range.  In general, the cost will be $3,000 to $5,000 and be from 2 to 4 weeks in duration.

There would be no legal requirement to attend a school located in your state, but there may be advantages by doing so.  Since many of the better schools administer the actual CDL tests on site at the completion of the training, the CDL issued upon passing would be for that state.  You are permitted by statute to possess only one CDL and that is to be issued by your state of residence.  Therefore, you might find yourself having to obtain a CDL from your home state after all.  Secondly, lodging and meal costs may be more economical if you attend a school where you could stay with relatives or friends.

I have no specific statistical data relative to employment success resulting from any schools placement program.  However, most reputable CDL training schools do work with carriers to assist in placing their students.

I would suggest you check out the reputation of any school you may be considering.  Frequently the internet can yield information....good and bad... about specific schools.  Also, talk directly with graduates of the school.

Beyond that I'm sorry, but I can not be of much help.

Thanks again and good luck.
