Trucking: South Florida Trucking, trucking business, cargo loss

I have been driving OTR for 1yr.  Now looking to purchase truck for hauling business in So. Fla.  What is best trucking business (i.e. most lucritive, w/ less hassle,etc.) for So. Fla area? Flat bed? Dump, Van, Reefer? etc. for what type hauling business?

Jay, it all depends what you want to do.  Long haul over the road tends to pay more than local work but you are not home often.  Reefer pays a little better than dry freight but also caries risks of cargo loss if you have a breakdown.  Flat bed is currently in demand in some markets but I don't know the S.FLA market specifically.
Dump truck tends to be lower paid in general.  The good news if if you own the tractor but not the trailer you can switch between whatever the market has to offer.  Check out the job boards for current opportunities:
