Motorcycle Repair: I cleaned the carb and now it wont start, knowledgeable friend, kill switch

Question
I let my Kawasaki 300 bayou sit up for a year and I wanted to get it running again so I cleaned the carb, changed the oil and filter. After doing so the bike would crank up just fine and run at idle with no problem but at soon as you touched the gas it would sputter and want to die out. I asked a few people at work and they said I must have done something wrong with my carb. I checked it out. I have 3 jets in this carb. The starter, the main and the pilot. Well I had threaded the starter jet which is a small hole into the main. But after fixing the problem and putting everything back together again, now the bike refuses to start at all. I have since taken this carb apart a dozen or so times and every time it would do this same thing.

Answer
Honestly, after reading this (and with a VERY knowledgeable friend) It sounds as if maybe you overlooked turning the fuel on?? I know this sounds extremely basic, however, ive seen too many of these carbs go past me, and if youre getting fuel, plus spark, you should have no worries. Check that, fuel on, kill switch on, and make sure you have the basics down, then let me know what you have, will help me diagnose your issue..

Thanks!

Hope this helps!
