Trucking: MC #, interstate service, hot shot trucks

Question
OUR COMPANY IS CURRENTLY REGISTERED AS INTRASTATE, TEXAS. WE HAVE MOSTLY TRACTOR/TRAILER FLEET REGISTERED FOR 80000, BUT WE ALSO HAVE A COUPLE OF HOT SHOT TRUCKS THAT GROSS UNDER 28000. CAN WE GET FEDERAL AUTHORITY FOR THE HOTSHOT FLEET ONLY WITHOUT HAVING TO ADD THE OTHER TRUCKS.

Answer
My answer is based on the assumption that you registered as a common carrier providing interstate service to the public for compensation....

The short answer to your question is "yes", however there could be complications. If the Hot Shot trucks run under the same authority and company (DBA-Legal Name) as the class 8 trucks, the MC authority would be all inclusive and impact insurance issues and likely have some affect on additional factors.  If you only want interstate authority for the Hot Shot trucks, my recommendation would be obtain a separate authority for the Hot Shot trucks only under another DBA or company division.
